The Friends of the Shattuck Shelter has changed its name –
Not its commitment to helping men and women find recovery, employment, housing and hope.

In 1983, Governor Michael Dukakis opened an emergency shelter on the grounds of the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital. Twenty-four years later, the shelter has grown into a comprehensive homeless service agency helping over 3,500 men and women annually find recovery, employment, housing, and hope.

Despite the growth of services, the organization
continues to be primarily known as an emergency shelter – when in fact it is so much more.

In order to more appropriately reflect the organization’s mission, the board and staff leadership team reached out to clients, donors, and staff to find a new name which better reflected the breadth and depth of the programs.

The Friends of Shattuck Shelter will continue to operate the Shattuck Shelter, but the larger organization that provides these services will be known as
hopeFound.

Recycling saves 95 percent of the energy required to make aluminum from ore.

In 1996, aluminum companies saved the equivalent of over 18.4 million barrels of oil — or 10.8 billion kilowatt hours. This represents enough energy to supply the electrical needs of a city the size of Pittsburgh for about six years.

In 1972, 53 million pounds of aluminum were recycled. Today, we exceed that amount weekly.
